In addition to a number of convenient walking/bicycling trails and neighborhood parks, Canal Winchester boasts close proximity to a number of great unique parks in the state/county park system that make great places for working out, learning history, or just being close to nature!

The following metro parks are located within ten minutes drive from downtown Canal Winchester: Chestnut Ridge Metro Park, Slate Run Metro Park, Slate Run Living Historical Farm, and the newest Metro Park, Walnut Woods.

Chestnut Ridge Metro Park

8445 Winchester Road, NW

Chestnut Ridge is located three miles southeast of Canal Winchester. This 486-acre Metro Park includes beautiful woodlands, open fields and outcrops of blackhand sandstone. A two-mile nature trail and boardwalk opened in late 1988 provides a view of some of the most beautiful scenery in central Ohio.

Slate Run Metro Park

1375 State Route 674 North

Slate Run Metro Park is a 1700-acre park located 5 miles south of Canal Winchester. Wooded areas housing a variety of native trees, shrubs and wildflowers make up half of the park. Visitors can also enjoy a 3.5-mile nature trail and picnicking facilities. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. until dark.

Slate Run Living Historical Farm

9130 Marcy Road

Slate Run Living Historical Farm is located within Slate Run Metro Park and is fully operational. Daily functions performed on the farm, from cropping to barnyard and household chores, use actual late 1880's machinery and methods. The principal farm buildings and residence were built on the site between 1856 and 1881.

Walnut Woods Park

6723 Lithopolis Road

New and still under expansion/development, Walnut Woods 1,032 acre area features paved pet-friendly trails through scenic stands of Sweetgum and Pine trees. A picnic area with tables and grills are on site.
